Re: Gary Grigsby’s War in the East

Re: Gary Grigsby’s War in the East
Beginning of Turn:
Set ZOOM OUT to next to last all the way out, I find it gives a good overview.
Don't forget the Logistics Report - Shift-E
F11 Battle Locations to view Soviet actions
F5 Fly Recon w/AI and then some user selected
F6 Bomb Units if there is a key location I am trying to capture
F7 Bomb Air Bases - mainly first turn, but don't just ignore
F9 Maybe check supplies and Airlift some to forward panzers
Main Turn:
Move units - always thinking about surrounding if mobile
or pinching off exposed units if static
REMEMBER TO MOVE HQ's UP TO WITHIN 5 HEXES BEFORE
ATTACKING so the support units can join in
and keep and eye on supplies (my favorite soft factor)
Think about breaking down divisions if need more units
to complete a pocket or cover a large front
END of Turn:
MOVE those AIRBASES forward!
Check HQ for 5 hex range again (should be done while moving units
but is very important, so a double check may be worth it)
CHECK those RAILROAD REPAIR UNITS (FBD units) AND REPAIR RAILS!!
(Shift-e) Check for reinforcements (they can move up by rail too)
CHECK the command chart (c) for units and distance away from
the HQ DtHQ (negative numbers mean command and control
issues you want to fix) which leads to
Checking Supplies, morale, fatigue etc. from the Commanders Report (c)
is worth the time to wrap up the end of the turn and watch/catch
what is transpiring with some units
Think about attachment of units to HQ's - war is messy and
Divisions, Corps, need to get swapped around
Think about support units and where needed
LASTLY: I zoom OUT to the next to last view level to watch the
AI turn, THEN I hit F12 end of turn.

Re: Gary Grigsby’s War in the East
v1.01 Beta 5 – December 16, 2010
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug that restored admin points previously expended by undoing a unit's strategic movement.
Fixed it so Shift-T cannot be used if the unit does not fulfill the requirements in 7.5.4.1.
Corrected the map data in hex 80,40 in Velikie Luki scenario.
Fixed a typo in the HQ switch leader check pop-up that spelled "succeeded" as "succeded".
Disabled map clicking during the AI turn.
Fixed a display bug in the combat text shown at high detail levels that could lead it to report a unit was shot at by itself.
Fixed a bug that would in some cases prevent valid air groups from being listed as available for an air mission (in the pick air groups for mission window) even though they were closer to the target than some other units that were being listed.
Fixed text typos: "Numberal" to "Numeral", "Unit and it's.." to "Unit and its.."
Prevented the user preference for the combat resolution message level from being able to be set higher than 7.
Fixed range of Soviet 152mm Howitzer.
Changed the name of IS-I, IS-II, IS-III to IS-1, IS-2, IS-3
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2653565

Re: Gary Grigsby’s War in the East

Re: Gary Grigsby’s War in the East

Re: Gary Grigsby’s War in the East

Y primer parche: (1.01) (no Beta)
http://www.matrixgames.com/products/372/downloads/
http://www.matrixgames.com/products/372/downloads/
Apart from fixing a handful of bugs, this comprehensive 1.01 update addresses the performance issues some customers were having on slower systems, remedies some Editor issues, improves mouse responsiveness and even has a few tweaks to AI performance.

"Beta5 exe is the same, but installer sets a new version number (with no beta), which can have impact playing MP games"

Re: Gary Grigsby’s War in the East
Sacado de un ARR de matrix.
Russia’s turn 6
Ok this game just continues to surprise me, after Russia’s move this turn, you can color me impressed. This screenshot is after very heavy recon flights by me but before my moves (actually I made three attacks near Kiev, you can see the hole I created near the Uzh River, but that is all), so you can assume not a lot of Russian units remain unseen unless they are heavily entrenched or in dense terrain. At least within 10 hexes of the front or so, I didn't do deep recons.
So what does the recon tell us? It tells us the AI is capable of identifying potential pockets and capable of reacting to the situation. That’s right gents it reacted to my moves to try and form pockets. First take a look at the small salient west of Vitebsk. Now my plan wasn’t to encircle those units, but the potential was there and the AI saw that and pulled back.
It also identified my move by the 1st Panzer group south of Vinnitsa to try and encircle the large blob of units there and pulled back much further as the threat there was greater than the one near Vitebsk. I will still probably surround some units here, but it saved a lot of units from suffering that fate by conducting this turns move.
I then see what must have been a strategic decision by the AI. A large percentage of the units that formed the large blob near Kiev have apparently redeployed north near Smolensk to react to the threat posed by 2nd Panzer groups crossing of the Dnepr River.
This is amazing to me, I have never seen an AI make a judgment like that before where it weighed the risk to strategic objectives and redeployed forces to the objective it felt is more important. Both Kiev and Smolensk were threatened and it chose to defend Smolensk, a correct assessment in my book. But unlike most AI’s that would move everything north, it left a line of defenders and also left a defense group in and around Kiev, not bad.
The one lesson this turns Russian move brings home to me is that I must achieve significant progress for breakthroughs in a single turn, enough so that the AI is unable to undo what I’ve attempted to do. Unfortunately for me I’ve learned this the hard way this turn.
Bravo 2x3 on what has to be the best Wargame AI I’ve ever seen in action. Not a human opponent no, but far above anything I’ve ever seen before for an AI.
